International Nurses Day 2020

This International Nurses Day, let’s recognise and celebrate the international nursing community, especially here at home for their hard work, commitment and resilience being on the frontline of the global pandemic.

May 12th is recognised globally as International Nurses Day, and this year is marked as a particularly special one.

The World Health Organization has declared 2020 to be the ‘Year of the Nurse and Midwife’. Currently, nurses around the world are part of the frontline dealing with the health crisis that is COVID-19.

Throughout history, the nursing profession has played a major role in stepping bravely into times of crisis, and this year has been no different.

Nurses put their lives on the line, dispose themselves to the medical risk and unfortunately sometimes abuse as they go about their jobs.

This year, let’s recognise and celebrate the international nursing community, especially here at home for their hard work, commitment and resilience being on the frontline of the global pandemic.

By adhering to social distancing, infection control measures, high level of hygiene and by simply looking out for each other, we will get through this.

And remember to stay positive. In the words of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing herself;

“Live life when you have it, life is a splendid gift and there is nothing small about it”
